UPDF Soldier shoots thug in buttocks

The Police at Kawempe is hunting for four gang members who escaped from a crime scene after their fifth member was shot and injured.

The incident happened on Monday morning when the five thugs attempted to break in and rob a fish processing plant at about 1 am in Kwata Zone, Kyabando ward, in Kawempe.

It is alleged while a Updf officer was on guard, the thugs armed with pangas and a gun jumped over the fence of the factory prompting him to shoot.

The bullet caught the thug identified as Opio John in the buttocks while his four colleagues managed to flee the scene.

The police were notified and an investigative team was sent to the scene where they recorded statements and recovered items including 1 Panga, Gun Pump-action and a big wire used as a lash.

Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP says that upon interrogation, Opio confessed to working with a security company and his beat is one of the churches not far from the scene of the crime.

“We have expanded our investigation to the security company that employed him and more details will be availed as soon as we get them. We would like to commend the UPDF officer for being alert and doing his work in subduing the thug with precision,” says Owoyesigyire.

He adds that the Police through the Community liaison teams have also embarked on briefing security guards at their places of guard to always be alert and help in fighting crime at their places of work.
