Police Dismantle Notorious Robbery Gang Terrorising Mukono Residents
Police under the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East have dismantled a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorising residents of Mukono Municipality and surrounding areas.
According to SP Rachel Kawala, the Public Relations Officer for KMP, the operation followed a series of aggravated robbery incidents involving a group of youths commonly known as “Eggaali.”
The gang allegedly targeted members of the public using dangerous weapons such as knives, pangas and pavers before robbing them of valuables.
“The gang would rob victims of their valuables, including mobile phones, bags, cash, laptops and wristwatches, particularly along Kayunga Road, Kusatu, Nasuuti and Wantoni areas,” Kawala said.
In response to growing public complaints, police launched an intelligence-led operation targeting the criminal group.
On May 25, 2026, a case of aggravated robbery was registered at Mukono Central Police Station under SD Reference No. 04/25/05/2026. The complainant, a technician, reported that he had been attacked and robbed of cash and other personal property while returning home.
Following intensive investigations, police developed crucial leads that culminated in a targeted operation on May 31, 2026. The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Muhanguzi Vian, 25.
During interrogation, Muhanguzi allegedly confessed to participating in a series of robberies within Mukono Municipality and provided information about his accomplices.
He subsequently led investigators to a hideout in Kigombya Cell, where the gang reportedly spent its days before carrying out robberies at night.
The other suspects arrested were identified as Mubiru David, alias “City”, 20; Kizito Solomon, alias “Kitama”, 18; Ssemanda Junior, alias “Kamese”, a 17-year-old juvenile; Muyomba Paul, alias “Matama”, 17; and Okumu Mark, alias “Sekere”, 18.
According to Kawala, the suspects admitted during interrogation to participating in numerous robberies across Mukono Municipality and claimed they had lost count of the number of people they had attacked.
A search conducted at the gang’s hideout led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a Burdizzo, a pruning machine, a hammer, a pair of scissors, six wristwatches, suspected opium, counterfeit currency notes in denominations of UGX 20,000 and UGX 50,000, 18 SIM cards, a torch, two face masks, two heavy-duty door cutters, 18 knives—including a butterfly knife—and six phone chargers.
Further investigations also led to the arrest of the gang’s alleged ringleader, Lubanga Brian, alias “2PAC”.
Police say the operation remains ongoing as efforts continue to trace and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
Kawala urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information with security agencies to support efforts aimed at combating crime in the community.
