Kampala Metropolitan Police Arrest 79 Suspects in Anti-Crime Operations

The Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified disruptive operations aimed at combating crime, drug use, robberies, house break-ins, and related offences across the Kampala Metropolitan area.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the joint operations involved police officers, local leaders, and community security stakeholders. The operations were conducted on the nights of 9 and 10 June 2026 in identified crime-prone areas within Kampala and Wakiso districts.

The operations targeted hotspots known for harbouring criminal elements, particularly youths involved in the consumption of narcotic drugs and the planning or commission of crimes such as robbery, phone snatching, assault, house break-ins, and theft.

Owoyesigyire said the operations were successfully carried out in Biina A and Biina B in Butabika, Biwologoma, Old Taxi Park, Wilson Road, Nile Coach, City Square, Yesu Amala, Kyebando, Masitowa, Ganda, Bujjuko, and Ngobe Cell.

As a result, a total of 79 suspects were arrested from the various operational areas. The suspects were found in possession of narcotic substances, including marijuana and opium, as well as suspected house-breaking implements. Some of those arrested are alleged to be repeat offenders linked to previous criminal cases.

The suspects have been charged accordingly and are currently detained at the respective police stations pending further investigations and prosecution. Several exhibits, including narcotic substances and house-breaking implements, were recovered and secured as evidence.

Owoyesigyire commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and provision of information, which has contributed to the success of the operations.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting criminal activities within their communities,” he said.
