Woman, daughter & Herdsman arrested for murder in Lwengo

A woman, her daughter and a herdsman are in police custody in Lwengo following the murder of her 60-year-old husband.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson identified the suspects are Sophia Kobusingye, her daughter Fazirah Namatovu and the herdsman only identified as Muzeeyi.

According to Nsubuga, the trio is allegedly being behind the gruesome murder of Sheik Ahmed Kasumba, a prominent livestock trader and resident of Kyetume village in Lwengo Rural sub-county who was killed by an axe and other sharp objects on Monday night.

The killers first sedated the deceased before killing him brutally.

Concerned neighbours, who heard the scuffle inside the couple’s house, notified the village council authorities who dashed to the ill-fated home. They entered the house and found Kasumba’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor. He had sustained wounds on the head, neck, and chest, which prompted the local leaders to invite the police.

Police picked up the suspects and locked them up at Mbiriizi police station as investigations continue. Preliminary information indicates that the couple has been entangled in a disagreement after information reached Kobusingye’s ears that her husband was planning to marry a second wife.

Nsubuga further noted that Local Council leaders tried to mediate the conflict but the wife refused to calm down and instead kept threatening to kill her husband.

The suspects face charges of homicide but the investigations will determine their fate.
