Two dead as tour van knocks pedestrian in Kanungu District
Two people have died in Kanungu when a motor vehicle reg. no UBE790D Toyota super custom grey in color being driven by 37yr Kabanda Denis Emmanuel, knocked a pedestrian.
Elly Maate the police spokesperson for Kigezi region identified the deceased as Omar Elsayed Mohammed Eldaghar a 27yr old Egyptian national who died on spot and a pedestrian one Kabatereine Simeon a 49yr old resident of Rushasha village Mpungu in Kanungu who died from the health center.
Meanwhile, Hommel Laurenz a 24yr old German national who was also a passenger in the super custom and the driver are both admitted at Bwindi hospital but in stable condition and will be airlifted to Kampala tomorrow Wednesday.
The accident occurred this evening at about 1700hrs at Rushasha village along Mpungu Butogota road when the vehicle knocked the pedestrian and went off road, rolled down a steep valley about 300 metres but was stopped by trees before it reached down the valley.
The scene was visited by D/Asp Lwembawo Stephen OC CID, AIP Amara OC traffic, SOCO and bodies taken to Bwindi hospital mortuary pending postmortem while by press time, the motor vehicle was still at the scene.
Cause of accident not yet established, inquiries ongoing.
