Police Arrest 40 Suspects in Operations Against Criminal Hideouts in Kira and Mukono
Detectives from Kampala Metropolitan East and the Mukono Territorial Police have conducted a series of successful operations targeting criminal hideouts and crime-prone areas in Kireka, Bweyogerere, and Bukerere.
According to the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, acting on intelligence, officers raided a suspected illegal motorcycle reassembly garage in Kireka Zone C, Namugongo Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. The facility is believed to have been used by criminals to store, dismantle, and reassemble suspected stolen motorcycles.
During the operation, twelve suspects were arrested, and sixteen motorcycles, whose ownership and status are still being verified, were recovered. The motorcycles were taken to Jinja Road Police Station for further investigations.
Additional operations were conducted in the Wellspring, Kakajjo, and Kazinga Hassan Trabi zones in Kira Division, as well as Bukerere Village and surrounding areas in Goma Division, Mukono District. The operations targeted suspected criminals involved in narcotic substance abuse and street robberies.
A total of twenty-eight suspects, including three females, were arrested during the operations, and exhibits of suspected narcotics were recovered.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects remain in police custody and will be processed accordingly.
He added that the Police remain committed to maintaining pressure on criminal elements through operations aimed at reducing crime, recovering stolen property, and improving public safety.
