Security Guard Kills One, Injures Another During Arsenal-Man U Match in Lukaya
The police in Lukaya have launched a manhunt for a security guard who shot and killed one person and injured another.
The suspect, Oketcho Richard, is a security guard with Gardaworld Security. The deceased has been identified as John Ssenyonga, a carpenter and resident of Juma Cell, Lukaya Town Council in Kalungu District. The injured victim is only known as Lawrence.
The incident occurred at Uganda Cares Building in Kulubya Cell, Lukaya Town Council, Kalungu District, where locals had gathered to watch a soccer match and Oketcho was working.
According to SP Twaha Kasirye, the PRO for the Greater Masaka Region, the shooting took place during a game between Arsenal and Manchester United on 4/12/2024. As the crowd grew noisy, one of the revellers, Musilamu Banda, switched off the lights, causing a commotion.
In an attempt to restore order, the security guard fired a shot, but the bullet tragically killed Ssenyonga and injured Lawrence.
Police were called to the scene, and officers, including D/ASP Akware Esther, Scene of Crime Officers, and a canine unit, responded promptly. They examined the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and recovered the firearm involved—a loaded AK-47 rifle with four remaining bullets.
The injured victim was rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased’s body was taken to the same facility for a postmortem examination.
SP Kasirye noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motive behind the shooting.
