Man Lynched by Mob After Attacking Resident in Rukiga
Police in Rukiga District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Niwamanya Victor, also known as Simpi, a 30-year-old resident of Kirimbe Cell, Kandago Parish, Bukinda Sub-County.
Simpi was allegedly killed by a mob after he attacked and seriously injured Niwamanya Ivan.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on February 2, 2025, at around 11:00 PM, Simpi and other residents were drinking at a bar owned by a local businessman, Banet, when a disagreement broke out, escalating into a fight.
Reports indicate that Simpi was armed with a panga, which he used to attack Niwamanya Ivan, cutting him on the neck and leaving him critically injured. Ivan was rushed to Muhanga for first aid before being transferred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Following the attack, an enraged mob stormed Simpi’s home and lynched him.
The incident was reported to Rukiga Police Station by Tugume Jack, the LC3 chairman of Bukinda Sub-County. Police visited both crime scenes, documented evidence, and recorded statements from key witnesses. Simpi’s body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem before being handed over to his relatives for burial.
No arrests have been made so far, but Maate confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the mob killing and bring them to justice.
