Residents armed with pangas hunt for man who chopped his neighbor’s children to death- Kanungu

Police in Kanungu is searching for a man who chopped two children to death, accusing their father of having extramarital affair with his wife.

The suspect is Edward Birungi 40 years, a resident of Kagarama cell, Nyarutojo parish, Kambuga sub-county, while the victims are Tracy Nabasa 8 years and her brother Ian Owembabazi aged 3 years, both children of Kato Frank of the same village.

IP Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional PRO says that today Thursday, police received information from the area chairperson Augustine Mutabazi that two children had been murdered by their neighbor who allegedly suspected the father of the kids to be having an extramarital affair with his wife who divorced him two weeks ago.

That the suspect allegedly picked a panga and went to Kato’s house where he found the children alone at home as their father had gone to the garden. He then proceeded to chase and hack them to death.

Police visited the scene and picked the two bodies which were conveyed to Kambuga health center 1v for postmortem.

The suspect is currently on the run and being hunted by locals who are also armed with pangas.
