Prison Warder shoots two colleagues to death in Buikwe

Police at Njeru CPS are holding a prison warder identified as Otim Jacob 28 years, who shot and killed his two colleagues at Bugungu Yo prison Njeru Municipality Buikwe district.

The incident happened today Monday 31/10/2022 at around 0700/c when the victims were on their Guard Beat.

According to Hellen Butoto the PRO Ssezibwa Region, they received a call from deputy OC prison principal officer Otim James about the incident and immediately responded to the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Abwot Eunice 25yrs, a prison wardress, and Namanya Edward 30yrs, a prison warder.

The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to Jinja Mortuary for postmortem.

The suspect, also a Prison Warder at Bukungu Prison, is detained at CPS Njeru pending investigations.

Frank Baine the Prisons spokesperson says that Otim signed a gun to go for general duties in the morning only to head to the Sentry where Wardress Abwot Eunice was working and shot her dead instantly.

On hearing the sound of the Gun, the second sentry, Warder Namanya Edward came to establish the cause of the shooting. Unfortunately, he too was shot dead by Otim.

After shooting the duo dead, Otim tried to commit suicide but failed and was subdued by other staff on duty and detained.

Late Wardress Abwot Eunice hails from Laroo Sub-County, Gulu District while late Warder Namanya Edward is from Rwamucucu Sub-County, Rukiga District.
