Police spend 12 hours in running battles with students from three schools in Koboko

Police and education stakeholders in Koboko district have closed down three schools Koboko Public SS, Koboko Parents SS and Nyangilia SS following a fight that broke out at 11 pm on Monday 28th March 2022 and ended at 11 am on Tuesday 29th March 2022.

It is reported that the students of Nyangilia SS attacked Koboko Public SS on Monday night.

SP Angucia Josephine the PRO West Nile says that in the process, their colleagues from Koboko Public retaliated and injured one student and also destroyed school properties.

This forced Nyangilia students to seek help from their friends at Koboko Parents SS to support them against Koboko Public SS.

The students used bows, arrows and stones to fight each other. Angucia says Police had running battles with them for 12 hours throughout the night until around 11 am on Tuesday.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but one student was badly beaten and rushed to Koboko health centre 4 for treatment in a critical condition.

She adds that three students of Koboko Public SS were arrested and are currently detained at Koboko CPS. Police also recovered exhibits of Arrows and bows.

The attack by Nyangilia SS against Koboko Public SS was fueled by a long-standing conflict between the two schools.

The DPC Koboko, DEO, DISO and other stakeholders made a decision to close down the three schools on Tuesday, in order to pave way for investigations and to enable them to reorganize themselves.

Koboko Public SS was closed first at 9 am, Koboko Parents SS closed at around 2 pm and Nyangilia SS closed later in the afternoon. The situation is now calm.
