“When, Hon. Kyagulanyi reached home at around 1300 hours, he refused to enter his gate and instead insisted to go back to the party headquarters In Kamwokya in a procession which was against the Independent Electoral Commission guidelines. His supporters started rioting and pelting security personnel with stones” Onyango said.
He added that the Independent Electoral Commission escort vehicle registration number UG0948B that was given to Hon. Kyagulanyi was also damaged, and that the security team was forced to use teargas to disperse the already charged crowd.
“Other people were also injured by the flying stones, including unidentified lady, who was rushed by supporters of Hon. Kyagulanyi to unknown medical centre. The perpetrators of violence were arrested and detained at Kasangati Police on charges of inciting
Violence, assault and malicious damage” Onyango said.
According to Onyango, this was pre-arranged, planned activities as intelligence had it that NUP supporters wanted to have a procession through the city centre but they were frustrated by security.
NUP party president insists they did not mobilize people to take part in the violent clashes that left many people injured and properties destroyed.
