Panic as 94 people perish in accidents within five days

A total of 94 people died in accidents that occurred between Monday 10th January to Saturday 15th January 2022.

According to ASP Nampiima Faridah the PRO Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety Uganda Police Force, 350 people sustained injuries in the accidents.

393 accidents were registered between the said dated. 68 were fatal, 215 were serious while 110 were minor. This left 444 victims, 94 dead 350 injured.

ASP Nampiima says they also arrested 9,241 traffic offenders and issued them with EPS tickets on various traffic offenses at various checkpoints in the whole country.

Among the offenses were 1,921 reckless driving, 1,609 DMCs, 767 Invalid driving licenses, 279 Speeding while 712 were not wearing seatbelts among other offenses.

“We remind all road users to be vigilant while using the roads and drivers to avoid reckless driving since it’s the major cause of fatalities on our roads,” Nampiima told a press conference on Monday.
