Marine Police & locals retrieve the body of a man who drowned at Lake Bunyonyi on Sunday evening

Marine Police with help from locals in Kabale, have retrieved the body of a 23-year-old man who drowned at Lake Bunyonyi.

Onesmus Twinamatsiko, a resident of Katoma cell Mwendo parish Kitumba sub-county Kabale district drowned on Sunday 5/09/2021 at around 19:00hrs towards Katoma landing site on his way from Bufuka village across the lake.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Twinamatsiko was alone in his local canoe and had no life protective gears, when the incident happened.

A search was mounted and the body has been retrieved from the water towards noon today.

Maate says inquiries are ongoing to establish the likely cause of drowning.
