Man caned to death by his clan members for assaulting his wife

The Police in Bukwo district are investigating circumstances, under which a 27-old man, was caned to death by his clan members.

Laban Kwemoi, a resident of Brim Parish, Brim Sub County in Bukwo district met his death at the hands of his clan members on Tuesday night following a violent quarrel with his wife.

According to family sources, after the incident, the wife reported a case of assault to the clan heads. They reportedly mobilized, intercepted Kwemoi, and locked him in the house before they assaulted him.

“The suspect was later, taken to his father’s home where he died following numerous beatings,” said the source.

The deceased’s wife was still traumatized to comment on the incident. However, Siya Ben the clan chairperson, claims that reports of the deceased assaulting his wife did not reach his office.

The Sipi region police spokesperson Fredmark Chesang says they are still carrying out investigations, and they will get a comprehensive report.

Chesang says police have received the names of some suspected clan members who participated in beating up the deceased but did not reveal them for fear of jeopardizing their investigation.

One of the deceased’s relatives, says that the clan members were biased in their response. One of the leaders in the brim parish who preferred not to be named says, the community couldn’t rescue the victim claiming it was a family affair.  Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Bukwo Resident District Commissioner, says that there is a need for police to improve on crime surveillance.
