Kyambogo allows unvaccinated students to access campus as government warns against the same

Kyambogo University Management has Tuesday allowed unvaccinated students to access the campus and attend lectures, a day after they were blocked.

Students who showed up without vaccination cards on Monday were turned away by the institution.

President Yoweri Museveni set 1st November 2021 for the reopening of higher institutions of learning and this happened on Monday.

Despite being turned away on Monday, the unvaccinated students were allowed to access the university through the Eastern and Western gates, but with strict observance of the covid-19 Standard Operation Procedures- SOPs.

Professor Eli Katunguka the Vice-Chancellor noted on Monday, that the university had not issued any guidelines restricting non-vaccinated students from accessing campus.

Meanwhile, the government has warned the tertiary institutions against allowing unvaccinated students to attend classes.

While addressing the media today, Dr. Monica Musenero, the Minister for Science and Innovations who is also a member of the national COVID-19 task force, urged all institutions to abide by the President’s guidelines.

She noted that the learners were given adequate time to get vaccinated. She insisted that vaccines are accessible in many centers across the country.  Dr. Musenero said that a team has been dispatched to several institutions to ensure that the guidelines are adhered to.
