Civilian succumbs to bullet wound following shooting by soldier in Lamwo

One person is dead following a shooting incident in Arogo village, Kal Parish, Madiopei Town Council, in Lamwo District.

ASP Ongom David the PRO Aswa River region says officers at Madiopei Police Station responded to the gunshots in the village near Banabana Army barracks.

It is alleged that one of the soldiers developed a misunderstanding with civilians while having a disco dance late in the night.

The soldier was allegedly assaulted by a civilian identified as Kica Emmanuel.

Witnesses told officers that the armed soldiers apprehended Kica but as they escorted him to Madiopei Police station, he attempted to run away from them, prompting Pt. Odera Ronald, an Army officer attached to Banabana barracks shoot at the victim injuring him in the stomach.

Kica was then abandoned in the nearby bush but was later evacuated by police to Kitgum Hospital where he died on Thursday.

Ongom says the case file shall be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice and once sanctioned, those found culpable shall be charged accordingly.
