Armed Assailants rob mobile money agent, electronics shop attendant at gunpoint in Kakumiro

Police are hunting for three armed gunmen who raided a mobile money agent and electronics shop in Kakumiro district making off with 30 smartphones and an unspecified amount of money.

Preliminary reports indicate that the gunmen stormed the shop in Mwitanzige trading center in Mwitanzige sub-county around 9 pm.

It is alleged that the gunmen first approached Denis Bagonza, a mobile money agent pretending to be customers before they placed him at gunpoint and ordered him to surrender whatever he had.

They later stormed an electronics shop belonging to Yasin Baryankoraki, whom they also placed at gunpoint and ordered him to give them all the smartphones in the shop.

They made off with 30 new smartphones. Baryankoraki told reporters that after robbing the phones, the thugs fired several bullets in the air as they fled from the crime scene.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, they have commenced investigations into both cases and so far, they have recovered a cartridge from the crime scene to help their investigations.
