31-year-old man in trouble for extorting money using Gen Saleh”s name on Facebook

The military have arrested Asiimwe Andrew Mark who has been masquerading as Gen. Salim Saleh and extorting money from unsuspecting people.

The 31-year-old Asiimwe is a resident of Nyamitanga, Mbarara City where he works as a broker selling motor vehicles.

According Brig. Felix Kulayigye the defence spokesperson, the suspect has been stealing from people, using a Facebook account opened in the name of Gen Salim Saleh since 2021.

Asiimwe has been using the page to falsely advertise jobs for youth who want to work abroad.

The suspect alleges that he was also conned by someone purporting to be Gen Saleh’s personal assistant, forcing him to begin the same scam.

Kulayigye has warned the public to be careful when engaging with social media handles carrying pictures of government officials, especially those that ask for money.
