20 arrested during day two of police operations in City Centre

At least 20 people have been arrested from downtown Kampala where they had opened shops, contrary to the COVID-19 lockdown directives.  The persons were arrested during an operation by police in Kampala Metropolitan area.

Luke Owoyesigyire the PRO KMP says the operations shall continue until end of the 42 days’ lockdown which are ending on 30th July.

On Wednesday, at least 30 other people were arrested in town especially on Nasser and Nkrumah road. He says people use shortcuts and other even pass through trenches to access the City.

He however argues that there are no customers in town who will buy whatever these people are selling, advising that they should stay home and be patient.

“We shall continue with the operations targeting business which are operating illegally, and that will help us reduce on the number of people, frequenting the city centre” He noted.

Those arrested are being held at the Central Police Station and will at a later date be arraigned before Courts of law for doing a negligent act, likely to spread COVID-19.
