10-year-old boy on the run after killing abusive father for assaulting his mother

Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which a 10-year-old boy hit his 33 yrs old father with a hoe, leading to his death.

The deceased has been identified as Pius Tugumisirize, a resident of Rwesigiro village Kikarara parish Bwambara sub county in Rukungiri district.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, it is alleged that on Saturday 24/07/2021 at around 22:00hrs, the deceased developed a quarrel with the wife identified as Ruth Owakubariho 29 yrs.

The deceased hit his wife with a hoe on the head, and left her bleeding profusely, before running away to hide in the park.

However, the couple’s 10 year old son picked the same hoe used to hit the mother and followed the father, met him hiding and hit him unconscious and left him for death.

The child went back home, informed them of what he had done, prompting them to rush to the scene where they picked and rushed him to a clinic in Kikarara where he died today morning.

Meanwhile, the woman went and reported a case of domestic violence unknown to what the son had done.

Police was notified, visited the scene, postmortem was done and the woman was picked for questioning while the son is on run.
