Two killed by UPDF truck in Kasese

The traffic police at Kasese Central Police Station are investigating an accident that occurred at Nyamwamba West cell, Nyamwamba Division Kasese District along Nyakasanga Road, at around  1230/C, involving a UPDF vehicle reg no H4DF 2172 Toyota Land Cruiser, killing two people.

The deceased include a child Bira Linius a four-year-old resident of Nyamwamba West Acholi quarters Kasese District and Private Mawadri Fred attached to Rukoki Barracks under the mountain brigade.

ASP Faridah Nampiima the PRO Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, says the child was knocked down as he crossed the road at Nyakasanga.

“The vehicle then lost control, and rammed into the House damaging it, while the soldier (Pte Mawadri) who was seated behind the Vehicle died on the spot due to suspected falling debris from the house.

The bodies have been conveyed to Kasese Hospital for postmortem examination.

Nampiima says that the accident is suspected to have been caused by speeding and careless crossing of the road by the child.
