Joint Security Forces Recover 60mm Bomb in Moroto District

A team comprising the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has recovered a 60mm bomb in Apeikidor village, Lokeriaut parish, Nadunget sub-county, Moroto District.

The recovery followed a tip-off from the LC1 chairman of Apeikidor village, who alerted authorities about an abandoned bomb in the area.

The joint team, led by No. 52203 CPL Tabu CB Jimmy, was dispatched to the scene and safely recovered the 60mm bomb, which was found without a fuse.

IP Longole Mike, the Acting PRO for Mt. Moroto/ASTU, commended the chairman and the community for their vigilance and cooperation with authorities. He urged the public to remain alert and immediately report suspicious objects or activities.

This incident occurred just a day after two children were killed in a suspected bomb blast in Katiyangole village, Lokiraut parish, Nadunget sub-county, Moroto District.

The deceased, identified as Lopocho Alida (12) and Lokuwam (11), reportedly found a metallic object suspected to be a bomb while hunting for rats in the bush. Unaware of the danger, they picked it up and began playing with it, resulting in a fatal explosion.

Longole noted that community members responded quickly and recovered the boys’ bodies. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
