Ssewanyana, Ssegirinya committed to High Court for Trial

Makindye West Member of parliament, Allan Ssewanyana, his Kawempe North counterpart Muhammad Ssegirinya alias Mr. Update, and four others have been committed to the high court for trial for murder, terrorism, and abetting terrorism.

The decision by Masaka Grade One Magistrate Christine Nantegge came after Masaka Resident State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka told the court that they had completed their investigations and were ready for trial.

The 6 suspects are accused of masterminding the indiscriminate machete killings that rocked Masaka region between January and August 2021.   

Nantegge read the summary of the cases to the accused persons and explained that the state would present CCTV footage of their meetings in Ndeeba near Kabaka’s lake and happy boys’ restaurant to plan the killings.   

Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende who is also the suspects’ lawyer and asked the court for copies of the committal papers.

Kawempe MP Ssegirinya told the court that he never received treatment from Mulago National Referral Hospital and Murchison Bay prison health facility, and prayed that the court orders the prison authorities to take him to private health facilities such as Nsambya, Mengo, or Lubaga hospital where he can access specialized treatment.  

Nantegge then ordered prisons authorities to allow the legislators to access medical attention from specialists. Meanwhile, Malende says they too are ready to proceed with the case in the high court.
