Security guard shot dead as colleague battles for life following attack on fuel station in Jinja

Police are searching for unknown assailants who shot and killed a security guard at Stabex Pump fuel station along Kyabazinga way in Jinja city.

The deceased has been identified as a 28- year-old Isaac Olupot, attached to Security Group Africa Limited-SGA

According to the police report, gunmen shot Olupot several times in the head, chest, and abdomen in the wee hours of Thursday morning killing him instantly.

The deceased’s colleague, James Okuboi also escaped with serious injuries and is battling for his life in the emergency ward of Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, says the robbers made off with Olupot’s gun and unspecified sums of money they snatched from the pump attendants.

The pump attendant says that three armed robbers stormed the pump station in a transnational trailer at about 2:30 am and they thought that maybe they were coming to refuel their tank.

However, on getting out, they started firing towards the guards who were caught off guard, killing one of them instantly.
The robbers directed the attendants to lie flat with their faces on the ground, took all the money they had, and sped off.

Detectives have reviewed the CCTV footage from the Pump fuel station but the images are not visible enough to ease the identification of the suspects as the thugs seem to have mastered this pump station before launching their attack because the CCTV footage indicates that they were dodging the cameras.
Mubi, says the deceased’s body is lying at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem while a team of detectives and scene of crime officers are still combing the crime scene for more clues.
