Police officer in trouble for shooting civilian dead

The Police in Tororo have arrested one of their own for shooting a civilian to death, following a misunderstanding.

According to IP Mugwe J Moses Ag. PRO Bukedi South Region, it is alleged that last night at around 2200/c, two officers identified as No.206 Spc Oguti John Martin and No. 326 Spc Okecho John Martin attached to Merikit Police Post were guarding construction materials for Merikit/Mollo road.

However, they developed a misunderstanding with a civilian identified as Okoth Richard a 36-year-old driver and resident of Ramogi Cell, Magoro Ward, Merikit Town Council, Tororo District.

During the argument, No.206 SPC Oguti John discharged a bullet which caught him and he died instantly.

Officers led by the DPC Tororo SP Fred Ahimbisibwe, D/ASP Mukooli S Moses and a team of homicide detectives and Soco visited the scene of the crime.

The suspect was arrested and the which rifle used in the murder was recovered.

The deceased’s body has been conveyed to Tororo Municipal Mortuary pending post-mortem.
