Police Hunt Man Over Murder of Estranged Wife in Mityana

The police in Mityana are searching for a suspect identified as Nsubuga Dube, 35, a resident of Kasozo Village in Zigoti Town Council, Mityana District, in connection with the murder of his estranged wife, Namatovu Sherina, 23, a resident of Nakitolo Cell, Ttanda Ward, Ttamu Division in Mityana Municipality.

It is alleged that the deceased had separated from her husband following a misunderstanding and that he had repeatedly attempted, unsuccessfully, to persuade her to return to the marriage.

According to SSP Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, witness accounts indicate that Dube had on several occasions threatened to harm the victim.

Police say that on Saturday, 23 May 2026, during an introduction ceremony held at the deceased’s village, the suspect allegedly sneaked into the party and was seen seated with Sherina, attempting to convince her to return to his home.

At about 12:35 a.m. on 24 May 2026, the two reportedly left the venue together.

However, along the way, Sherina is believed to have refused to accompany the suspect to his home, leading to a scuffle during which she was allegedly strangled to death.

Her body was later discovered by residents lying half-naked in a cassava garden along a railway line.

A team of homicide officers from Mityana Police Station visited and documented the scene. Police observed abrasions around the deceased’s neck and visible signs of a struggle.

Statements from witnesses were recorded, and the body was taken to Mityana Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Kigozi said the suspect remains at large and that police have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
