One Dead, Three Injured in Kansanga Electrocution Accident
One person died and three others were hospitalised following an electrocution incident that occurred on Friday morning in Kansanga.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, identified the deceased as 24-year-old Nyanzi Charles, a resident of Simba Zone, Kansanga. The injured individuals have been identified as Tanga Asuman (26), Twinamatsiko, and Ntambi Abraham.
According to police reports, the four men had gone to Kansanga Police Post to participate in a national identity card registration exercise in Ssebaagala Zone, Makindye Division. At the request of a local leader, they were assisting in transporting a tent from Seed School Kansanga to the police post, where the exercise was to take place.
Tragically, while carrying the tent, its metallic frame came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line, resulting in the electrocution of all four men.
“The deceased was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby clinic, while the three survivors sustained injuries and received immediate medical attention,” said ASP Owoyesigyire. “The incident was reported at Kabalagala Police Station, and our officers responded promptly.”
He added that the tent belonged to the LC1 chairman and was positioned near the power line.
“No arrests have been made so far, but investigations are ongoing. We urge the public to always exercise caution when handling metallic structures near power lines,” Owoyesigyire emphasized.
