Mob Kills Robbery Suspect in Ndejje as Police Recover Two Guns
The police at Katwe are investigating a case of aggravated robbery and mob justice that occurred on Friday, June 13, 2025, at around 4:00 am in Mirimu Cell, Ndejje Parish, Wakiso District.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, two unidentified male suspects, armed with sticks and breaking tools, allegedly attacked and robbed a resident, Ssali Alex, of Shs 1.5 million and a mobile phone. The assailants reportedly assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s cries for help alerted members of the public, who gave chase. One of the suspects was caught and lynched by the mob, while his accomplice managed to escape.
A follow-up investigation led police to the residence of the identified suspect. “During a thorough search, we recovered various items including master keys, screwdrivers, iron bars, crowbars, head socks, cello tape, six mobile phones, a black jumper, and a blue pouch containing breaking tools,” said Owoyesigyire.
He added that a Toyota Noah vehicle, registration number UBQ 7260, believed to have been used by the suspects, was impounded. A detailed search of the vehicle revealed two semi-automatic rifles with two magazines loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, a panga, and additional breaking implements.
The body of the deceased suspect was transported to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination. Police investigations into the robbery and the subsequent mob justice are ongoing.
“We shall provide more details as investigations progress. While we commend the public for responding to a crime in progress, we strongly discourage acts of mob justice. Suspects should be handed over to the police for lawful prosecution,” Owoyesigyire emphasized.
