Mother in trouble for strangling own two-month-old baby to death

Police in Arua have in custody a woman identified as Sharon Amaniyo a resident of Koo cell in Yivu ward, Ayivu division for allegedly strangling her two-month-old child to death.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region Police Spokesperson says the incident was reported by a resident identified as Tabu Albino who found the minor’s lifeless body lying in the suspect’s doorway around 6 am on Monday.

Amaniyo was intercepted by residents who attempted to lynch her around 9 am. However, the police intervened and saved her from the mob.

According to Angucia, preliminary information shows that the suspect is an alcoholic and that at the time of the incident, the child’s father Alfred Anduma was in Kasese district where he went for construction work.

The LC 1 chairperson of Koo cell Richard Angutoko, says that his office has been receiving complaints about the behaviour of the suspect, whom the residents accuse of abandoning her child to go partying.

Amaniyo is currently detained at Onduparaka police station.
