Missing Kanungu Businessman found dead in Mitooma district
Body of a Kanungu local businessman who went missing on Friday has been discovered in Mitooma district on Tuesday morning, a day after the report was made.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson, the businessman identified as Ivan Kimunyu a resident of Kanungu went missing on Friday 5th March 2021.
His brother Benard Kimunyu reported the case at Butogota police station at about 23:00hrs on Monday night after receiving information from Ivan’s two wives that he hadn’t returned home.
Maate says that the victim was last seen at around 17:00hrs on Friday at Rutenga and Kanungu, by one Kehoda Melesent while boarding a vehicle Wish whose registration number is still unknown.
It took the family days to realize he was missing since he has two wives; one in Kabale and another in Kanungu. There was a possibility, that he was at either’s home, hence not causing any alarm. However, when both wives could not reach him on phone, they called his brother who reported the case to police.
“A case file of disappearance was opened vide Botogota SD.08/08/02/21. Announcements were put on KBS radio station in Kanungu and inquiries initiated” Maate said.
However, Ivan’s body was found in Mitooma district on Tuesday morning. Maate says more details will be availed and a murder investigation has commenced.
