Masaka murders- MPs Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana summoned
The police Criminal Investigations Directorate –CID has summoned Makindye West Constituency Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana and his Kawempe North Constituency Muhammad Ssegirinya over the murders in the greater Masaka area.
The Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday confirmed that at least 26 people have been murdered by unknown assailants in Masaka City and Lwengo districts since July 21. Several other victims who survived the attacks are nursing wounds in the hospital.
President Yoweri Museveni and minister for ICT Dr. Chris Baryomunsi have publically made statements claiming Masaka killings have political instigation.
In a twist of turns, Commissioner of Police Paul Kato Tumuhimbise, in his summons issued on Friday on behalf of CID Director Grace Akullo, says the MPs are needed as part of the ongoing investigations on murders that happened in July and August 2021.
The duo is expected to appear before detective Moses Taremwa on Monday to record the statements.
“This serves to as summon for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September 2021 at 10 am before D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said investigations,” part of the summons read.
Both Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya are members of the opposition National Unity Platform –NUP Party.
CID Spokesperson Charles Twiine says the duo has been summoned to help with investigations.
