Koboko Teachers in trouble for conducting illegal lessons during a pandemic

Four teachers from various schools in Koboko district are in police custody after they were found conducting lessons, contrary to the Presidential guidelines on COVID-19.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced fresh restrictions as part of measures to control the COVID-19 transmissions in the country in face of the second wave of the pandemic. He ordered closure of all schools for a period of 42 days and warned teachers against conducting illegal lessons.
However, the teachers from various schools within Koboko Municipality were arrested on Friday morning teaching more than 40 pupils from different schools at Sambya Primary School in Ombachi.

According to Lokol Chrisanto the acting District Police Commander Koboko, those arrested are; Adiga Vincent, Ezati Luke, Driciru Alice and Abigo Robert.

The teachers will be charged with disobedience of lawful orders and doing a negligent act likely to cause an infection of disease.

He added that besides conducting illegal lessons, the teachers and pupils were not adhering to the covid-19 standard operating procedures- SOPs that include wearing face masks and observing social distance.

Parents of the pupils have been summoned to explain why they released their children to the teachers despite the presidential directive.
