Counter Terror Officers shoot, kill another terror suspect in Kampala

A terror suspect has been shot dead after jumping off a police patrol car while trying to escape from officers that were escorting him to SID Kireka.

The suspect has been identified as Matovu Adam alias Manihajji, a 36-year-old resident of Ttula zone, Kawempe 1 ward, in Kawempe Division.
According to police spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, officers from the joint counter-terror task force team that is involved in the ongoing operations to capture terrorists who have been attacking the country in recent weeks, were escorting Matovu when he jumped off the vehicle.
Enanga says the officers responded and fired warning shots commanding the suspect to stop, but in vain prompting them to shoot and maim.
“Unfortunately the suspect succumbed to the bullet wounds at the scene around Naguru remand home,” Enanga said.
The officers were returning from what has been termed as a successful cordon and search operation in Kawempe Division, where they recovered an AK47 gun, (without a serial number) but with 14 rounds, a bag containing a suicide belt with suspected explosives, and an assortment bomb-making materials.
Enanga noted that the suspected explosive was neutralized at the site, on safety grounds.
“The public should know that encounters with terrorism suspects are usually violent and full of uncertainty. The officers kept telling him to stop, but he did not adhere to their command” he said.
The police spokesperson says they are reviewing the shooting incident but urged all suspects to always follow due processes to avoid such tragic incidents.
