Buganda Parliamentary caucus to pitch camp in Masaka over the weekend

Legislators under the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus have resolved to pitch camp in Masaka city on Friday this week, so as to assess the security situation following a series of unresolved murders in the greater Masaka region.

The MPs reached the resolution during the Buganda caucus meeting held Wednesday morning at parliament. During the meeting chaired Butambala County Member of parliament Muwanga Kivumbi, reporters heard that during their visit, they will interact with various people to gather the necessary information on the murders.

Unknown thugs have so far hacked 26 people to death over the past few weeks in the areas of Bukomansibi, Lwengo, and Masaka districts.

On Tuesday, the State Minister for Internal Affairs Minister, Gen David Muhoozi told Parliament that there is heightened security in the region, which has led to the arrest of 11 suspects in connection to the attacks.

However, Kivumbi wants security to profile all former security personnel, including local defense Unit (LDU) personnel, crime preventers, and Ugandans who served overseas as private security guards to rule out their involvement in the murders.

Mityana District Woman MP Joyce Bagala and several others legislators expressed concern about how the Government is handling the situation.

They noted that it is unfortunate that the Government is blaming politicians for the murders instead of resolving the matter.
