Budaka businessman shot dead, body abandoned in vehicle

The Police in Budaka are hunting for assailants who killed Buyinza Ibrahim a 42-year-old businessman dealing in cattle and a resident of Namutumba District and abandoned his body in a motor vehicle.

According to ASP Alaso Immaculate the PRO, Bukedi North Region, the officers received a distress call about armed robbers moving in a V8 Landcruiser who had attacked Nakibulu village, Macholi ward in Budaka Township, Budaka District.

A team of officers from the field Force unit(FFU) responded immediately and informed their counterparts at the Budaka checkpoint along the Mbale-tirinyi road about the suspects.

However, by the time the communication came in, the suspects had gone past the checkpoint.

Today morning at around 7 am, the same vehicle registration number UAY 596B in which the suspects were travelling, was found abandoned at Butakikoko Village, Kiryolo Parish, Lwatama sub-county in Kibuku District with a dead body of Buyinza.

The body had bullet wounds. There was also a lot of animal hair, ropes, gumboots, sandals, cow dung and one black backpack containing clothes.

Alaso says that there has been an increase in cases of cattle thefts in the district and they believe this could have been part of the racket stealing cattle.

She applauded members of the public for their level of vigilance and warned all criminal-minded people that security teams are on the alert to respond to any security threats in the region.

Efforts are underway to identify and trace the other occupants of the vehicle to bring them to book.
