Bodies of three fishermen retrieved from Lake Kwania

Bodies of three fishermen who drowned in Lake Kwania on Friday evening have been retrieved by officers from the Police Marine Unit in North Kyoga region.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as Walter Okite, Denis Ayo, and Tony Olobo, all fishermen at Abali Landing Site in Atongtidi sub-county.

According to Sam Ayoo the Goi parish LCII Chairperson, the trio went fishing around 4 pm on Friday evening but their canoe capsized after being hit by heavy winds.

Okema says the Police Marine Unit conducted a search on the Lake and recovered the bodies on Sunday evening and handed them over to relatives for burial.

It is reported that the fishermen use locally made canoes, which are dangerous and can easily be hit by heavy winds.
