Another Senior Police Commander Succumbs to COVID-19 after three days in ICU

Uganda Police Force  fraternity has lost one of her senior officers, Senior Superintendent of Police – SSP Samuel Bamuzibire the Kampala Metropolitan 999 Patrol Commander, due to COVID-19.

According to sources at Naguru police headquarters, Bamuzibire has succumbed to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) at Nsambya hospital.

He was reportedly rushed to Nsambya three days ago and has been in the Intensive Care Unit. Police is yet to issue an official statement about his passing.

He is the second senior police officer in Kampala to succumb to COVID-19 in the second wave. Kira Road Division Police Commander – DPC Matthias Turyasingura died of COVID-19 at least two weeks ago, after driving himself to Mulago National hospital and not walking out again.

Bamuzibire is famous for the saga of brutalizing former Presidential candidate Kiiza Besigye’s supporters in Najjanankumbi. However, in 2018, he was exonerated by the Police Court chaired by Senior Commissioner Dennis Odongpiny.

At that time, Bamuzibire was the Kampala Field Force Unit commander. His co-accused such as SSP Andrew Kaggwa, ASP Patrick Muhumuza and SP Moses Nanoka were demoted in rank.

Kaggwa, Muhumuza and Nanoka were convicted on the count of unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority. Other juniors who were convicted include Willy Kalyango, Sula Kato, Agaba and Muhangi.
