The incident took place in Bugarama village, Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme Subcounty, Rukungiri district on Wednesday, December 1.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Turyahikayo had just murdered his estranged wife Stidia Turyatunga after she sabotaged his move to sell their family land.
The couple separated 6 years ago and the man shifted to Kyegegwa district where he married another woman. However, he reappeared on the 10th Nov 2021 with plans to sell the entire family land and shift the old wife to Kyegegwa.
On Wednesday at around 1130hrs, Turyahikayo sold the land to a neighbor only identified as Allan, a land sale agreement was made but the wife objected and refused to sign.
Turyatunga left the men at home and went to the garden, prompting the buyer (Allan) to leave with his money and this annoyed the husband.
He sharpened his panga and followed his wife to the garden before cutting her several times all over the body.
The residents organized and rushed her to Nyakibale hospital where she later died at around 1700hrs of the same day. This angered the residents who also traced for David and lynched him.
After the murder, the mob carried David’s body from the scene and locked it in the couples’ isolated home where the late wife had vacated to rent in the trading center.
Police visited both scenes of crime with the DCID/O,CIO,SOCO, and a team of detectives plus other personnel who documented everything.
