A total of 1,100 suspects are in police custody and over 50 motor vehicles have been impounded, following an operation carried out by the territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan last night with an aim of enforcing Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures.
Asp Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP says the aim was to raid bars that have been working in total disregard of the Ministry of Health guidelines.
“The suspects were arrested from different bars around Kampala Metropolitan Area. We retaliate that bars are not yet opened. Police will not hesitate to arrest any suspects found violating stipulated guidelines” Owoyesigyire says.
Adding that all suspects who were arrested, will be produced in courts of law on offences of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease.
He further urged members of the public to observe standard operating procedures, like wearing masks in public places and sanitizing, to avoid contract Coronavirus or spreading it to others.
