Two police officers arrested over missing guns in Napak district

19 people including two police officers are in custody in connection to the theft of two guns from Naminit ASTU detach, Nabwal Subcounty in Napak District.

The guns, UGPOL.56-5827931-30588 with 90 rounds and UGPOL.56-6504730-56078 with 90 rounds were stolen on 1/11/2022.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, UPDF and ASTU personnel of Naminit detach carried out a joint operation in Nabwal Subcounty to arrest the suspects enlisted by intelligence to be in possession of illegal firearms.

However, after the operation, all personnel went back to the detach and found that the window bugler proof to the armoury had been broken and two guns were missing.

Officers from ASTU headquarters Mt Moroto Regional offices with a team of investigators and canine officers visited the scene and introduced the canine dog which tracked and led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Teko James and Angela Lino.

According to AIP Longole Mike the Ag. PRO Mt Moroto, the officers received more leads and arrested fifteen other suspects as well as the police officers who were in charge of guarding the armoury.

“We have also in custody our two personnel who were directly charged with the responsibility of ensuring the safety of arms. However, we are still on the ground doing operations geared towards the recovery of the missing guns,” says Longole.

He urged members of the community of Nabwal Subcounty to cooperate with security forces by giving relevant information that may lead to the recovery of the missing guns by reporting to 0776-132543, 0787-769719, 0784-991722 or stations near them.
