Suspect hangs herself in police cells, two officers arrested

The police in Kween District are investigating circumstances under which a female suspect allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in police custody.

The incident happened on Saturday 12/11/2022 at 0600hrs at Chepsukunya police post in Kween District.

The deceased has been identified as Chebet Stella Harriet 33yrs, a resident of Kapkwich cell, Kapkwich Ward, Chepsukunya town council in Kween District.

According to Fredmark Chesang the police spokesperson for Sipi region, it is alleged that the deceased had obtained money worth Shillings 500,000 from Kurobe Agnes by false pretence leading to her arrest by the police.

She was then locked up at the police station pending referral to Kween CPS. However, she hanged herself before the transfer could be effected.

Chesang says two police officers have been arrested to help with the investigations. They are, no 65399 PC Omino Benard and SPC Soyekwo who are charged with neglect of duty.
