Residents of Emeng Village in Apolika parish in Chawente Sub County are in shock after one of their own, 29-year-old Tony Awany, took his own life by hanging after his father-in-law repossessed his daughter over failure to pay bride price.
Awany was on Monday morning found hanging in a house, a few days after his wife left for her father’s house.
According to the deceased’s father Denis Ogola, Awany attempted to commit suicide twice, claiming that he was not given cattle and money to pay dowry.
The acting DPC Kwania Nelson Odongo says police handed the body to relatives for burial.
Richard Enyang, the clan chief of Pedi-cung-kal in charge of Chawente Sub County, the deceased’s clan says they were in preparation to bury him.
