Sheikh Abbas gunned down, as Counter Terror teams hunt for Sheikh Suleiman, in connection with Kampala twin bombings

Counter Terror teams have shot and killed one Sheikh Muhammad Kirevu aka Abbas in Nsangi.

Police spokesperson CP Fred Enanga told a press briefing at Naguru earlier today, that the incident occurred in Nsangi following violent confrontations with the security teams.

According to Enanga, Sheikh Kirevu was one of the leaders involved in the active recruitment of personnel into the ranks of ADF, and was one of those promoting the re-emergence of ADF terror cells within Kampala.

“It is unfortunate that he died under those circumstances. But, we are now intensifying the manhunt for Sheikh Suleiman Nsubuga who is one of the main actors behind the recruitment, training, and radicalization. He has been providing material support and resources to the domestic terror sells and also providing resources and materials on the use of explosives and destructive devices to these terror cells” Enanga says.

He added that the terrorists’ motive is to create panic, fear and inflict harm as seen in the attacks.

Meanwhile, Enanga says their teams also intercepted a group of 13 terrorists at Karugutu in Ntoroko district as they were attempting to cross from Uganda to the DRC.

Seven of these were adults while the rest were children, including infants who were being smuggled out of the country, to the Eastern DRC where the ADF rebel camps are.

“Those intercepted are young recruits. For instance, Musa Abdallah Ayebare 26, a resident of Gangu Wakiso was recruited by Sheikh Abbas Kirevu of Kajjansi. He has also given us a list of all those who were being recruited by the Sheikh” Enanga noted.

The other recruits include; Fahad Sseruwu, 21-year-old resident of Katale, Kajjansi also in the same recruitment cell, Munubi Shakirah 26 years, resident of Katunguru, Kasese, Nassanga Sumayiya 18 years from Kasana, Luweero, Ainembabazi Mariam 21 years, resident of Katunguru in Kasese, and Kahindo Edith 34 years, from Nyabusokoma Karugutu trading centre.

The juveniles who were also being smuggled out of the country include; Imran Ssessanga 12 years from Kasana Luweero, Ayibi Kikomeko, 9 years from Kasana Luweero, Muhayiminu Natukunda 8 years from Katunguru Kasese, Shahida Namatovu 5 years from Katunguru Kasese, Ainebyoona Abdu 1 and a half year from Katunguru Kasese was going with the mother, Birungi Jovia 1 month old and Tahad Seruwu.

Enanga says that the ADF is actively recruiting and called on Ugandans to remain vigilant and avoid crowded places, especially during the coming festive season.

This morning, authorities indicated that four suspected rebels were shot dead in Ntoroko district.
