SACCO Chairperson in trouble for misappropriating over Ugx17 million Emyooga funds

Police in Namisindwa District is holding Anthony Namasata, the Chairperson of Emyooga SACCO over the alleged misuse of 17 Million Shillings.   

Namasata a resident of Magale town council in Namisindwa district and Chairperson of Bubulo East Constituency Produce Dealers Sacco was arrested on Tuesday from Munamba trading center.   

According to Benjamin Mudumbi, the head of Namisindwa District Criminal Intelligence Department, the missing money was meant for 18 groups, but Namasata and the SACCO treasurer withdrew 23.7 Million Shillings to give to the groups, only to disburse less which raised concerns among the members.

The suspect was charged with embezzlement and misuse and obtaining money by false pretense.

Executive committee members say Namasata abandoned the group shortly after withdrawing the money.   

Namisindwa County Member of Parliament Apollo Masika condemned the act of misusing the funds, arguing that the money is meant to benefit all the people of the district, not just one individual.  

He pledged to follow up the Emyooga program in the district to ensure anyone who misuses the funds is arrested and prosecuted to fight corruption.
