Police Hunt for Armed Robbers Who Shot and Injured Shopkeeper in Kisoro

Police in Kisoro are searching for suspects who allegedly shot and injured a businessman before robbing him of millions of shillings.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Public Relations Officer for the Kigezi region, the incident occurred on April 29, 2025, at around 8:30 PM at Mugomberero Trading Centre in Rushenyi Village, Muramba Sub-county, Kisoro District.

It is alleged that 30-year-old Mucunguzi Kenneth, a shop attendant and resident of Rushenyi Village, was shot and injured by unidentified assailants who then stole 23 million Ugandan shillings. On the night of the attack, four armed men reportedly stormed the shop owned by Turinayo Michael, where Mucunguzi was working. The assailants shot him in the arm before making off with the cash.

The attackers are said to have fired several gunshots to disperse people in the trading center, causing panic and forcing residents to flee the scene.

Police responded to the incident, visited and documented the scene, and recovered nine cartridge cases. The injured victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are underway.
