Three Nabbed in Iganga Over Fake Dollar Deals and Aggravated Robbery
Police in Iganga have arrested three suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting organised criminal gangs linked to counterfeit currency schemes and aggravated robberies in the region.
The suspects have been identified as Isooba Asuman, also known as “Mazima,” 19; Isooba Amisi, 29; and Guule Syrus, 25, all residents of Namungalwe Village in Namungalwe Town Council, Iganga District. They were arrested in Kisinze, Kawete, and Namungalwe town councils.
According to ASP Kasadha Michael, the Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, the suspects are alleged to have been luring victims into fake dollar exchange deals before robbing them of cash.
On March 8, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., Akampulira Dismas, 26, a businessman and resident of Kigoowa Zone in Nakawa Division, Kampala, reported a case of aggravated robbery involving UGX 13 million. The incident reportedly occurred on March 6, 2026, at around 1:00 p.m. in Namungalwe Town Council, Iganga District, allegedly carried out by a suspect identified as Michael and others.
Kasadha said the district crime intelligence team was covertly deployed to identify the prime suspects. The team identified them as Isooba Asuman, Isooba Amisi, and Nalugoda Mohammad.
Later on, March 8, 2026, at around 6:30 p.m., Nalugoda Mohammad was arrested. Upon interrogation, he reportedly admitted involvement in the criminal activities and led investigators to Isooba Asuman and Isooba Amisi.
On May 2, 2026, at around midday, the two prime suspects were apprehended in Namungalwe Village as they were allegedly planning another criminal operation.
The three suspects are currently detained at Iganga Police Station on charges of aggravated robbery, and investigations are ongoing.
Police have urged the public, especially members of the business community, to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudsters dealing in counterfeit US dollars.
