Trainer Dies in Suspected Suicide at Kabalye Police School

Masindi, Uganda — The Police in Masindi District are investigating a suspected suicide involving a police trainee, which occurred on April 23, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM at Kabalye Police Training School.

It is alleged that No. 70992 Police Constable Tembo James, a 29-year-old trainer, fatally shot himself using an AK-47 rifle shortly after it was handed to him by PC Onek Francis.

According to SP Hakiza Julius Allan, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Albertine, a case of suicide by shooting was reported, prompting a response from officers at Masindi Central Police Station. The police visited the scene, recorded statements from key witnesses, and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 28 live rounds. The weapon has been taken as evidence.

A postmortem examination was carried out by a police surgeon, and PC Onek Francis has been taken into custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that inquiries are still underway, and further updates will be issued as new information emerges.
