Police Foil Armed Robbery in Nakawa, One Suspect Killed

Police patrol officers have foiled an armed robbery and put one suspected assailant out of action.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 23rd June 2026, in Ssemwogerere Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, the Public Relations Officer for the Kampala Metropolitan Police area, preliminary information indicates that at about 12:50 a.m., a businessman and his wife were walking along Mukasa Road when they were intercepted by three armed robbers. The suspects ordered the couple to stop and lie down, and they complied.

The robbers then robbed the businessman of his mobile phone and wallet at gunpoint. As they turned their attention to the woman and demanded her phone, police officers conducting motorcycle patrols in the area arrived at the scene.

Police officers immediately pursued the suspects, and during the operation, one unidentified male suspect, believed to be about 25 years old, was put out of action.

The police recovered several exhibits from the scene, including one SAR rifle, one bayonet, four smartphones suspected to have been stolen, two black shaving machines, three black jackets, one empty cartridge, one screwdriver, a pair of red canvas shoes, and a black laptop bag.

The body of the deceased suspect was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
