Police blames officers’ lack of spouses on media

The Uganda police Force has decried attacks from the public especially through the media, as the reason most of their male officers are single.

This was revealed by Charles Twiine Mansio the PRO criminal investigations department, CID while addressing the press on Friday in Kampala.

Mansio noted that the Electoral Commission has issued guidelines to be followed by all candidates and their supporters ahead of the 2021 general election. The EC has also specified the number of people who can attend a campaign rally at a time.

“Owing to that, drums of violence have started, people have warned us to stalk as much teargas as possible, and it’s not called for. Let us respect the law and where you are not comfortable with the law, go to court and challenge it” Mansio said.

He added that police is not as brutal as portrayed and people shouldn’t take them as so.

“Police is not as brutal as some of you like to insinuate. By the way as a matter of fact, we all have sisters, mothers and children. We even have young men, very handsome, hardworking and ready for marriage. But they have been denied love because of what you castigate us. Sure, somebody says, who can dare marry a police officer?” Mansio added.

He called for the media to create an environment to know when police is working, and engage them when they go wrong as they are always ready to reform.

“But also take note that we are policing a very charged society in the circumstance, but we shall continue engaging them. We know there are some people who are sober” he added.

He called on religious and community leaders to beg members of the public on their behalf, to be good to the police officers as they are also human.

“We are ready to cooperate with you to ensure that we together create a Uganda that is crime free so that we all enjoy Uganda as a habitable environment.”
